My dog woke this morning and was having trouble keeping his right eye open (or he did not want to have it open). The inner eye lids and the white part of the eye were red.

There appears to be nothing in the eye to irritate it. It also seems to be sensitive to light.

The eye lids do not appear swollen (if they are, it is only a little). He seems to be behaving normally, but he has been scratching the eye lately.

Hi Eva,
From the photos and your description of his behavior, I suspect that he may have scratched his cornea. You need to make an appointment with a veterinarian, as soon as possible.

See our section on Corneal Ulcers for some more details.

You do not have to seek out a holistic veterinarian for this problem, a conventional vet can treat the problem just as well.

Another resource for vets knowledgeable in homeopathy is AVH.org.
