Open Swollen Circular Wound on Dog's Paw

by Melody
(La Jolla, CA)

I just noticed yesterday that my dog, Pudge, had a strange open swollen circular wound on the front of his left paw. It's a perfect circle, really red in the middle, and is surrounded by a brownish black rim. I think it could some kind of spider bite, but I am not sure.

Pudge is a 6 year old King Charles cavalier.

Hi Melody,

From the angle of the photo, and only submitting one photo, I cannot really tell if this 'wound' is a 'hot spot', otherwise called a (lick granuloma), or an open draining tract from a foxtail, migrating through the foot. It could also be from an insect bite or sting. At 6 years of age, it may be the beginning of a mast cell tumor.

I suggest you seek the help of a holistic veterinarian, for a more natural treatment for this problem.
